Kids retail segments catering to  indian children is in for a big boom. Leading the kids' retail revolution is the apparel business, which accounts for almost 80 per cent of the revenue, with kids' clothing in India following international fashion trends. The total kids' apparel market-size is  over US$ 4 billion,of which branded kids segments constituent  US$ 800million . kid retail covers Toys, stationary, sportswear, outerwear, tailored clothing, eyewear, watches, fragrance, footwear, theme parks, TV channels which  is growing rapidly at 10 per cent per annum.

Swiss kidswear brand Milou is collaborating with Tirupur-based Sreeja Hosieries.
Turner International India Pvt Ltd. will launch Cartoon Network Townsville and Planet POGO--two theme parks designed around its channels--in the National Capital Region.
Sahara One Television has also signed a Memorandum of Understanding to source content from Spacetoon Media Group, Middle East's largest kids' entertainment brand for animation and live action content.

The Indian toys and games market is estimated at $600million
The Indian toys and games market is estimated at approximately Us$600millions and has been handicapped by lack of significant national brands and the availability of quality retail stores. Out of  around 1 billion Indians, 160 million (16 per cent) are children below seven years and another 190 million (19 per cent) are in the 7 to 14 year range.  Being a young nation,  there is a big  opportunity to grow in  this market by providing a wide range of national and international brands and products under one roof and creating a store experience which is memorable and unique. There is a large potential in the toy market which is still left untapped.

Multinational toy brands entering India:
Chad Valley, a key toy brand in the UK, offers toys, games and complete play solution for all children of up to ten years of age. The first retail shop of Woolworths which was launched a century ago in 1909 in London has entered India along with Spencers.
Reliance Retail (RRL) under a master franchise agreement with UK's Hamleys, one of the world's largest toy chains, is set to market the company's products in the country. The company plans to open 20 stores under the Hamleys brand in the next seven years.

Video Games
There is  vast untapped potential in India. With the increased penetration of mobile phones and personal computers in small towns and cities, industry experts estimate the gaming market to grow in the near future.
Gaming can be classified into PC gaming, Console gaming, Wireless gaming, Multiplayer gaming and Massive Multiplayer Online Role playing Games (MMORPG).
Mobile games:
According to industry estimates the market for mobile gaming in India is expected to be around  US$336 million by 2009. In India, mobile gaming and console gaming are the most popular forms of games followed by PC gaming and MMORPG.  The penetration of cell phones in India was higher when compared to personal computers; hence more people were likely to get their first gaming experience on a cell phone. Moreover, a large proportion of youth were keen to try out new games. Cellular service providers such as Hutch and Reliance had capitalized on the popularity of mobile gaming in order to attract more subscribers by offering games for download through their websites.

Online gaming
The online gaming sector in India is being driven by the increasing number of Internet users, increase in disposable incomes, and propensity to spend among the youth. The growth of Internet cafes such as Sify i-way and Reliance WebWorld, who have installed online games to attract more consumers, has also contributed to the rise in online gaming in India.

The PC gaming segment in India mainly consists of youth and college students. Console gaming is still at a nascent stage in India. Individual consumers, schools and IT/ITES are the target market for console gaming.


Games can be played using storage devices such as CDs, DVDs or online (with a fast and stable internet connection). Console Gaming – In console gaming, games are played using game consoles.
