400,000 Logistics personal required in the next five years"
The domestic logistics industry, which is estimated to generate business worth $125 billion in the next five years, will need over 400,000 skilled logistics manpower in the next five years.The logistics industry is growing at a rapid pace and it is yet to overcome skilled manpower crunch. There has been a sudden transformation in the scale and scope of activities provided by the logistics sector. This growth rate needs to be supported with a parallel growth of skilled and trained manpower. Attracting and retaining talent has been a major problem in the logistics business. There is a need to incorporate a high degree of professionalism in the functioning and approach in this business. . Since the industry is becoming global, it is important to have the right talent, with more knowledge to meet the demand. The other basic problem is awareness. The industry has not exposed itself properly. In India logistics companies were traditionally dominated by individuals and seen as family business. It has only been in the recent years that MNCs have entered the industry.The Logistics industry pays Rs 15 lakh to Rs 20 lakh every year to an entry-level candidate in the middle-range segment of finance, marketing and human resources.
Job opportunities in Indian logistics industry:
The most severe and immediate requirement for skill development is found to be in the road freight and warehousing segments. There is plenty of job opportunities in logistics sector in India for truck drivers, loading supervisors, warehouse managers and seafarers. By 2015 logistics industry in India need 5 million truck drivers, 5lakh loading supervisors ,35000 warehouse managers. Over the next decade the global demand for officers is expected to be between 25,000 to 60,000,depending on the growth of shipping fleet. The government aims to increase India's present share of 6 percent of global manpower to roughly 6.6 percent by the next decade - this will require induction of 4000 officers and 4750 ratings, based on conservative estimates. At the present growth rate, the demand for seafarers will roughly double in the next 10 years
