Construction industry is the second largest employment generation avenue in the country
The booming Indian construction industry, currently worth $80 billion, would soar up to a value of $150 billion by 2010, giving rise to a demand for manpower of over 90 million.
Around 16 per cent of the nation's working population depends on construction for its livelihood. The Indian construction industry employs over 3 crore people and creates assets worth over Rs 20,000 crore
The construction industry, as it grows, would also require a large number of civil engineers. Thanks to the boom in the construction industry, real estate sector, architects are in short supply. There are about 108 architecture schools in the country, from where only 3,000-4,500 architects graduate every year. Only about 40,000 architects are registered with the Council of Architecture, and they serve a population of over a billion. The demand for architects just isn’t being met.
