The boom in the aviation industry has set the stage for huge growth in the aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) market. Both government and private equity organisations are increasing investment in this area with the intention of providing reliable and cost-effective maintenance services to all Indian carriers. Simultaneously, they hope to attract foreign airlines that provide high-quality MRO services and offer competitive advantage. This will also help fulfil certain mandatory and defined quality thresholds.
MRO business in India is expected to be an average of $150 million per annum for the next 10 years.

Center for Asia Pacific Aviation(CAPA) has predicted that India has a potential to service at least 1000 commercial planes and 500 general aviation aircraft by 2020.
Potential for Indian MRO has increased as many commercial airlines started operations where as only Air India and jet airways have their own MRO to service their fleet.
Air India and Boeing are seeking a majority stake in the proposed maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) venture that is supposed to come up at Nagpur and are on the look out for a third partner for the JV.
